World Read Aloud Day at Gateway Christian School

Gateway Christian School is celebrating World Read Aloud Day on February 16th. In the Becoming a Nation of Readers report (1985), experts reported that “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” Throughout the day, each classroom will have a “guest reader” come in and read a story. I’ll be reading to each of the grade 7 classes during the first two periods, and to the grade 9s and 12s third period.

Reading to kids is easily one of my favourite things to do, and of course Gateway’s students have a special place in my heart. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to this event!
